5G is here, but it won't really flourish on next-generation phones and 5G connected cars until the network is built out. That physical network will be more vast and dense than that which powers current networks. It'll also cost as much as $750 billion worldwide over the next five years. Yet it comes at a time of unparalleled economic challenges that put every major project under harsh scrutiny. Now what? The reason 5G needs so many cellular antennas, or "small cells", is because it often uses higher frequency radio waves that have vast data capacity, but short range. Those high-frequency waves are also less likely to bend around...

After being grounded for nearly two years, the Boeing 737 Max is once again flying commercial passengers in the US. An American Airlines flight took off from Miami International Airport shortly after 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, headed for LaGuardia Airport in New York. The Federal Aviation Administration in November cleared the Boeing 737 Max to resume commercial flights in the US following a nearly two-year review. The 737 Max had been grounded worldwide since 2019, after two fatal crashes, the first in Indonesia in October 2018 and the second in Ethiopia the following March, killed a total of 346 people. Boeing says it has since fixed the MCAS flight control system...

Longtime Apple iPhone supplier Lens Technology, a maker of glass screens and coverings, has been accused of using forced Uighur labor in its factories, according to a report by the Washington Post, citing documents from the human rights group Tech Transparency Project. The report noted that Lens Technology is a supplier to Tesla and Amazon, too.   Many companies' supply chains wind through Chinese factories, a reliance frequently complicated by the country's opaque, authoritarian government. China's Xinjiang region is home to the Uighur ethnic minority, a Muslim population being persecuted by the Chinese government. Human rights advocates have decried abusive practices that compel Uighur...

Looking vaguely like a Smart Fortwo, this ultra-compact car is intended for short-distance, daily use, not long-distance cruising. The C-Plus Pod is about 98 inches long, 51 inches wide and 61 inches tall. Yeah, I told you it was small. And with a turning radius of less than 13 feet, it should be more maneuverable than a shopping cart. As for weight, it clocks in at about 1,500 pounds. The C-Plus Pod's styling is definitely more functional than flowery with utilitarian and simple lines. Reducing weight and likely making it easier and cheaper to manufacture, this vehicle's body panels are made...

In 2020, phones are big. Even the small ones are big. The iPhone 12 Mini is wonderful because it's not big. It's truly small. When Appleannounced the Mini along with the iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max it was a remarkable moment for small phone lovers like myself. For a long time, we've wanted Apple to make a truly small iPhone in the vein of the iPhone 5, 5S or original SE. Earlier this year, Apple got our hopes up a bit, when it released a new iPhone SE which put the brains of the iPhone 11 Pro...
